Safety takes pole position at roadshow
20/05/2009

First Stop tyre dealerships have been out and about helping to educate drivers about the importance of tyre safety.

The events, were part of a roadshow which saw the First Stop team visiting nationwide locations to raise awareness of the importance of tyre safety. Recent research showed over 88 per cent of motorists don't check their tyre pressures weekly .

Staff from local First Stop centres, were on hand to carry out free tyre checks and offer motorists top-tips to help them stay safe, save money and reduce their carbon footprint whilst on the road.

On the day, kids and adults alike were given the chance to get up close and have their picture taken next to a real Formula One car, with all profits going to local charities.

The roadshow was a huge success, with motorists gaining valuable information as well as raising money for local charities.

Speaking about the event Dan Woodward, Retail Marketing Analyst for FirstStop said:
This was a great opportunity for us to get out and meet new and existing customers and we hope that everyone who came along enjoyed the day and getting up close to the real Formula One car on show.

We were surprised by how many motorists taking advantage of the free tyre checks were driving on tyres which were incorrectly inflated or had dangerous levels of tread depth.
The Highway Code states that tyre pressures should be checked weekly and when motorists ignore this advice they are putting themselves at risk by reducing their vehicles handling and braking effectiveness, not to mention increasing their fuel consumption.

As the only point of contact between the car and the road it is essential that tyres are properly maintained and we hope that visitors picked up all the information they need to continue checking their tyres at home to ensure every journey is safe.
